Ten Detroit Houses/It’s Lighter Than You Think is 20-page picture book that reads forwards and backward. This multi-year year project is an abstract meditation about my hometown of Detroit. Beginning as a way of documenting the many abandoned and feral homes that populate the city’s neighborhoods (at the time the official count topped more than 10,000), the project grew to focus on an idea of the home as a vessel for memory and uses the images of homes, abandonment, and decay as a metaphor for how those memories are altered by the passing of time.
