Odd Alewives Farm Brewery

Located Maine’s mid-coast, Odd Alewives Farm Brewery is housed on a former alpaca farm and modeled after traditional Belgian farmhouse breweries. A true farm to table establishment, they grow all their own hops, herbs, and produce used in their various lines of artisanal beers. For their visual identity John and Sarah McNeil, the founders of Odd Alewives stressed the importance of the aesthetic they were after— Scandinavian minimalism—with an economy of line and form to match. They wanted to incorporate the image of a Belgian ale glass with imagery of fish, alluding to the local Alewife, an anadromous species of herring that migrates up the coastal rivers of Maine to spawn each spring. Using negative space and economy of form, I was able to deliver a set of monograms, logos, and combination marks that should provide the McNeil's a great degree of versatility as their brewery grows.
